Description
Domaine Henri Clerc Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru 2020 is an outstanding white Burgundy made from Chardonnay in one of the Côte de Beaune’s most celebrated vineyards. Corton-Charlemagne is renowned for producing powerful, age-worthy wines that combine exceptional depth with vibrant mineral freshness—a style beautifully expressed in this distinguished vintage.
Tasting Notes
Brilliant gold in appearance, with the concentration and luminosity expected of a great Grand Cru. The nose opens with citrus fruits, ripe stone fruit and white flowers, layered with subtle oak, toast and the distinctive chalky minerality associated with Corton-Charlemagne.
On the palate, the wine is rich and concentrated yet remarkably precise, supported by energetic acidity and a long, mineral finish. Its balance of power, freshness and structure makes it compelling now, while further bottle ageing should reveal greater aromatic complexity and finesse. It can be enjoyed from approximately 2025, with excellent development potential over the next decade or more when properly cellared.
Production
The wine comes from the iconic Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru vineyard, whose limestone-rich soils and elevated Côte de Beaune slopes provide Chardonnay with both depth and pronounced mineral character. The 2020 growing season produced ripe, concentrated fruit while retaining valuable freshness. Fermented and matured in the traditional Burgundian manner, with carefully managed oak influence, the wine balances its natural richness with precision and freshness.
Food & Serving
Serve lightly chilled at around แassistant 8–12°C, allowing it a little time in the glass to reveal its full range of aromas. It is a superb partner for lobster, scallops, turbot and other refined seafood dishes, as well as roast poultry with cream-based sauces and mature hard cheeses. Decanting is not essential, but a brief decant of 30–60 minutes can help the wine open, particularly when enjoyed young.
Producer
Domaine Henri Clerc is a Burgundy domaine associated with the fine Chardonnay terroirs of the Côte de Beaune. Its Corton-Charlemagne reflects the region’s Grand Cru tradition, combining the richness of Chardonnay with the limestone-driven freshness and longevity for which this vineyard is internationally recognised.
