Domaine des Forges Savennières Roche aux Moines 2020 is a distinctive dry Chenin Blanc from one of the Loire Valley’s most celebrated hillside sites. Its rocky, mineral-rich terroir and careful barrel élevage give it a characterful expression of Savennières, an appellation renowned for complex, age-worthy white wines.

Tasting Notes
Expect a pale golden hue, with aromas of ripe pear, quince and citrus lifted by a stony, mineral note. The palate is dry and layered, balancing orchard-fruit richness with freshness and a lingering mineral finish. Chenin Blanc from this site can develop gracefully in bottle; enjoy the wine now or cellar it for further complexity.

Production
The Roche aux Moines slopes overlook the Loire and are shaped by sandstone schist, volcanic veins and windblown sand. The grapes are hand-harvested in two successive passes at full ripeness. Temperature-controlled fermentation helps preserve Chenin Blanc’s aromatic character, followed by fermentation in barrels and 11 months of careful ageing on fine lees with regular stirring.

Food & Serving
Serve at around 10–12°C with roast chicken, freshwater fish, scallops or creamy mushroom dishes; its freshness and mineral character also suit goat’s cheese. Decanting is optional, though a short spell in a carafe can help the wine open up, particularly if serving it young.

Producer
Domaine des Forges is a family estate with five generations of winemaking tradition. Stéphane and Séverine Branchereau took over in 2013, and the nearly 50-hectare vineyard stretches between the Loire and Layon rivers. Its range spans respected Loire appellations including Savennières, Roche aux Moines, Coteaux du Layon and Quarts de Chaume Grand Cru.
