Domaine de Villaine’s 2020 Rully 1er Cru Les Champs-Cloux is a Pinot Noir with a more powerful profile than the appellation’s lighter, fruit-led style might suggest. Its combination of juicy red and dark fruit, ripe tannins and fresh structure makes it enjoyable now, with the character to develop further in the cellar.

Tasting Notes
A lively expression of Pinot Noir, with sour red and darker fruits on the nose, complemented by a discreet hint of oak. The palate is initially dense, then opens around a juicy core; ripe tannins give it shape, while bright fruit keeps the generous texture fresh. Domaine de Villaine describes it as having an elegantly rustic character. It can be enjoyed for its fruit or allowed to evolve in the cellar.

Food & Serving
Serve lightly cool, around 15–16°C, with roast chicken, duck, pork or mushroom dishes. A brief decant of around 20–30 minutes can help the wine open up, though it is not essential; serve with minimal aeration if you prefer to emphasize its fresh fruit.

Domaine de Villaine is based in Bouzeron in Burgundy’s Côte Chalonnaise. Founded in 1971 by Aubert and Pamela de Villaine, the estate has helped bring attention to the area’s wines and is especially associated with Bouzeron Aligoté.
