Description

Domaine Bouzereau Meursault 2023 is a pure expression of Chardonnay from one of Burgundy’s most beloved white wine villages. Crafted from a mosaic of premier village parcels, it captures Meursault’s signature balance of richness, minerality and precision in a remarkably harmonious style. This cuvée is designed as the estate’s benchmark Meursault – a bottle that speaks clearly of place rather than a single plot.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2023 Meursault shows a bright, pale gold color with green glints that hint at its freshness and youth. The nose opens with citrus zest and ripe pear, followed by white flowers, almond, and a touch of fresh butter and hazelnut, layered over a fine, chalky minerality. With a bit of air, more complex notes of brioche, lemon curd and a delicate hint of vanilla emerge. On the palate, the wine is both generous and finely etched: silky and rounded upfront with flavors of lemon cream, stone fruit and crunchy apple, then tightening into a long, saline and mineral-driven finish. The oak is well-judged and supportive rather than dominant, framing the fruit with subtle toast and spice. The 2023 vintage brings good energy and clarity, making the wine approachable in its youth yet clearly capable of evolving. Enjoyable now with aeration, it will gain complexity over 5–8 years in bottle, developing deeper nutty, honeyed and truffled nuances typical of mature Meursault.

Production
This Meursault is a blend of around 12 different parcels within the commune, including notable lieux-dits such as Les Vireuils Dessus, Les Clous Dessus, Les Gruyaches, Les Grands Charrons and Les Petits Charrons. These sites, largely on limestone and marl with varying amounts of clay and stones, range from higher, breezier slopes to mid-slope parcels with deeper soils, combining to give both tension and breadth. Grapes are typically hand-harvested at optimal ripeness to preserve freshness and selective quality. In the cellar, the must is fermented in oak barrels (often with a proportion of new oak kept modest to avoid overpowering the terroir), with regular bâtonnage early in the élevage depending on the vintage. The wine then matures on its fine lees, allowing texture and complexity to build while maintaining the clarity and definition that make it a faithful, “classic” representation of Meursault.

Food & Serving
Domaine Bouzereau Meursault 2023 is a natural partner for refined, subtly rich dishes. Think butter-poached or grilled lobster, scallops, turbot or sole meunière, roast chicken with morels, veal in creamy sauces, or classic Burgundian dishes like poulet de Bresse with truffles. It also pairs beautifully with richer shellfish pastas, firm cow’s milk cheeses (Comté, Beaufort, aged Gruyère) and delicate mushroom preparations. Serve at around 11–13°C (52–55°F) to allow the aromatics to unfold without losing tension. Young bottles benefit from 30–45 minutes in a decanter or simply opened in advance to reveal their full range of aroma and texture; older vintages can be handled more gently, with a careful, brief decant if needed to separate any sediment.

Producer
Domaine Vincent Bouzereau is a respected family estate based in Meursault, rooted in generations of vinegrowing in the heart of the Côte de Beaune. Over time, the domaine has built up a fine patchwork of parcels across Meursault and neighboring appellations, allowing Vincent Bouzereau to produce wines that are both true to their terroir and consistent in quality. In Meursault, the domaine is known for crafting whites that balance traditional richness with a modern emphasis on purity, precision and freshness. Through meticulous vineyard work, careful hand-harvesting and thoughtful élevage, Vincent Bouzereau has earned a strong reputation among Burgundy enthusiasts for wines that are authentic, ageworthy and representative of some of the region’s most sought-after Chardonnay terroirs.

Meursault with elegance! Decant it, and it will be even better, preferably serve it in larger Burgundy glasses!
