Tasting Notes
In the glass, Damilano Barolo Raviole 2020 shows a luminous garnet hue with the characteristic transparency of top Nebbiolo, tinged with brick-red reflections at the rim. The nose is refined and expressive: notes of wild cherry, raspberry, and red currant are layered with rose petals, violet, blood orange zest, and hints of licorice, dried herbs, and subtle spice from oak. On the palate, the wine is vertical and focused, with a line of refreshing acidity that carries the fruit upward and through a long, persistent finish. Production
The Raviole vineyard sits around 300 meters above sea level on a southwest-facing slope in the hills of Barolo, where alluvial soils rich in limestone and clay give Nebbiolo its tension, perfume, and finesse. The alluvial component contributes liveliness and bright fruit, while the mix of limestone and clay shapes the wine’s refined tannins and intense, lifted bouquet. Grapes are typically hand-harvested to ensure careful selection of bunches at optimal ripeness. In the cellar, traditional Barolo methods prevail: a controlled fermentation and maceration on the skins extract color, aromas, and structure, followed by extended maturation—often in large oak casks or a combination of wood formats—to polish the tannins and preserve the wine’s delicate, yet defined character.
