Contratto Alta Langa For England Blanc de Noir Pas Dosé 2022 is an organic, vegan sparkling wine made exclusively from Pinot Noir using the traditional method. Its crisp, uncompromising style reflects the For England cuvée’s origins: first created in 1930 as a deliberately dry alternative to the sweeter sparkling wines of the era.

Tasting Notes
An intense golden hue is complemented by a fine, persistent bead. The nose brings citrus, toasted almond and candied ginger, while the palate is dry, precise and lively, with fresh acidity and a long, citrus-led finish marked by a saline edge. The wine spent 42 months on its lees, adding depth and detail to its profile. No further bottle-aging guidance is provided; it can be enjoyed now for its freshness and definition.

Production
The Pinot Noir comes from high-altitude vineyards in Loazzolo, where a cool climate helps preserve aromatic freshness. Calcareous marl soils contribute to the wine’s tension and saline character. The grapes are hand-harvested, quickly cooled and gently pressed without crushing; spontaneous fermentation with wild yeasts is followed by a second fermentation in bottle. The wine then rests on its lees for 42 months and is bottled Pas Dosé, with no dosage.

Food & Serving
Serve well chilled, around 8–10°C. Its brisk acidity and saline finish make it a natural match for oysters, shellfish, sashimi and other delicate seafood; it also works well with savoury aperitifs. Decanting is not necessary—open shortly before serving to preserve its fine mousse and freshness.

Founded in 1867, Contratto is a historic winery in Piemonte with a long association with traditional-method sparkling wine. The estate’s past includes supplying wine to the Vatican and the Belgian royal house.
