Tasting Notes
In the glass, Vigna Elena 2017 shows a luminous garnet core with brick-orange reflections at the rim, characteristic of Nebbiolo from a top site in Barolo. The nose is immediately complex and expressive, offering layers of dried rose petals, violet, sour cherry, and wild strawberry, followed by notes of blood orange, tar, leather, tobacco leaf, and a subtle hint of licorice and truffle. On the palate, the wine is structured yet refined, with precise, firm tannins wrapped around a core of red cherry, cranberry, and pomegranate fruit. Production
Vigna Elena comes from the Ravera cru in Novello, one of Barolo’s most esteemed hillsides, known for its calcareous marl soils, good altitude, and a cooler microclimate that yields wines of tension, perfume, and longevity. The vineyard is planted entirely to the Nebbiolo Rosè clone, a historic biotype prized for its finesse and aromatic lift. Yields are kept deliberately low, and harvesting is done by hand to ensure only perfectly ripe, healthy grapes reach the cellar. Fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts, following a slow, traditional maceration that extracts fine tannins and nuanced aromatics rather than overt power. The wine is then aged at length in large, neutral Slavonian oak botti, allowing the character of Nebbiolo and the Ravera terroir to shine without overt oak influence, before further bottle aging to earn its Riserva status.

This Barolo is a natural match for classic Piedmontese cuisine: tajarin with truffle, brasato al Barolo, vitello tonnato, and game dishes such as venison or wild boar. Serve at 16–18°C (about 60–64°F) in large Burgundy or Barolo stems to allow the aromas to fully open.
