Christopher Tynan Wines’ 2013 Judge Family Vineyard Syrah is a powerful yet finely balanced expression of Napa Valley, shaped by a dry growing season, low yields and exceptionally concentrated fruit. Combining the richness associated with Napa with the savoury, peppery character of the Rhône tradition, it offers both immediate depth and impressive long-term cellaring potential.

Tasting Notes
Deep, almost opaque in colour, the wine opens with aromas of blackberry, blueberry and violet, followed by freshly ground black pepper, bacon fat, tar and toasted oak. On the palate, it is intense and concentrated, with ripe, well-integrated tannins, vivid mineral freshness and a precise line of dark fruit that keeps the wine energetic rather than heavy. The 2013 vintage shows a cooler, more linear profile than the 2012, allowing its power to be matched by finesse and balance. It is drinking beautifully now with air, but should continue to develop complexity over the next 15–20 years when properly stored.

Production
The 2013 growing season was dry and characterised by low yields and small, concentrated berries, resulting in a wine with notable density, energy and aromatic depth. The Syrah was matured in French oak, contributing layers of toasted spice and savoury complexity alongside the vineyard’s dark fruit and mineral character. Food & Serving
This structured Syrah is an excellent match for grilled or slow-cooked beef, roast lamb, venison and richly seasoned sausages. It also pairs well with smoked meats, pepper-crusted dishes and hard, mature cheeses. Serve at approximately 16–18°C. Decant for 1–2 hours before serving to soften the tannins and allow the savoury and floral aromas to unfold.
