Christopher Tynan Wines’ 2012 Judge Family Vineyard Syrah captures the intensity of Napa Valley through a distinctly Rhône-inspired lens. Produced in small quantities from a high-elevation vineyard, it combines concentrated dark fruit with volcanic mineral character, refined tannins and an elegant sense of balance.

Tasting Notes
Deep and concentrated in appearance, the wine opens with aromas of dark berries, black olive, pepper and subtle smoke. With time in the glass, these develop into more savoury, meaty and graphite-like nuances. The palate is powerful yet poised, with dense fruit supported by marked but silky tannins and fresh acidity. French oak contributes a discreet layer of spice without overwhelming the varietal character. The 2012 vintage offers an appealing balance of maturity and freshness, with the structure to continue developing for approximately 10–15 years from vintage under suitable cellaring conditions.

Production
The Syrah comes from Judge Family Vineyard, a high-elevation site in Napa Valley with volcanic soils that lend the wine structure, minerality and definition. Christopher Tynan works in small quantities with a precise, terroir-focused approach. Following vinification, the wine was matured in French oak barrels, including a proportion of new oak, allowing subtle spice and texture to develop while preserving the intensity of the fruit.

Food & Serving
Serve lightly below room temperature, around 16–18°C. Decant for approximately 1–2 hours to allow the wine’s dark fruit, savoury notes and mineral character to unfold. Its depth and structure make it a natural partner for grilled or braised beef, lamb, venison, roasted mushrooms and richly seasoned Mediterranean dishes.
