Description

A First Growth Sauternes from the celebrated 2009 vintage, Château Rieussec is a richly expressive sweet wine presented here in a generous magnum format. Its standing among the region’s great estates and its combination of concentrated fruit, sweetness and freshness make it a memorable choice for a special occasion.

Tasting Notes
Deep, brilliant gold in the glass, it opens with an opulent bouquet of honey, toasted almonds and ripe pineapple. The palate unfolds in layers of mango, papaya and mandarin, with refined sweetness, a silky, almost creamy texture and a lively freshness that keeps the wine poised rather than heavy. The finish is long and intense, lingering with honeyed, sun-ripened fruit. The concentration and balance of the 2009 vintage suggest good potential for further development in the cellar; the magnum format is also well suited to slow maturation.

Food & Serving
Serve lightly chilled, around 10–12°C, alongside fruit-based or cream desserts, or enjoy it on its own as a luxurious end to a meal. It can also make an elegant match for blue cheese. Decanting is optional; allow the bottle to breathe briefly before serving if you would like the aromas to open up.

Producer
Château Rieussec is one of Sauternes’ best-known estates and was classified as a Premier Cru in the Bordeaux Classification of 1855. That historic status reflects the château’s longstanding importance in the region’s tradition of producing distinguished sweet wines.
