Château Margaux 2016 captures the estate’s celebrated blend of perfume, precision and depth. A First Growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, Château Margaux is one of the region’s most iconic names, and this vintage offers both immediate fascination and exceptional potential for the cellar.
Tasting Notes
Deep ruby in colour, the wine opens with an expressive bouquet of blackcurrant and red berries, violet, cedar, graphite and gentle spice. Floral notes add lift to its layered, finely detailed aroma.
On the palate, it is concentrated yet remarkably graceful, with silky tannins, finely balanced fruit and a long, polished finish. Its structure and precision suggest a long life ahead; with careful cellaring, it should continue to develop for decades.
Production
The vineyards lie in the gravel-rich soils of Margaux on Bordeaux’s Left Bank, where well-drained ground is especially suited to Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2016 blend is led by Cabernet Sauvignon, with smaller proportions of Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Château Margaux is known for rigorous vineyard work and careful selection, though specific harvesting and vinification details for this bottle are not provided.
Food & Serving
Serve at around 16–18°C with roast lamb, beef tenderloin, venison or a rich mushroom dish. Decant for approximately two hours before serving to allow the wine to open, or enjoy it gradually in the glass. For a young bottle, a longer decant may help reveal its aromatic detail.
Producer
Château Margaux is a historic estate in the Margaux appellation and one of Bordeaux’s five First Growths named in the 1855 Classification. Its reputation rests on wines prized for elegance, aromatic finesse and longevity, and it remains one of the region’s most distinguished producers.
