Why shop with us?
Château de la Selve’s L’Audacieuse is a distinctive, organically and biodynamically made Rhône rosé, crafted with unusual care and a proportion of ageing in demi-muids and amphorae. From the 2023 vintage, it brings together Syrah, Grenache Noir and Viognier from carefully selected Ardèche parcels for a more layered, characterful style of rosé.
Tasting Notes
The wine shows clear copper-coloured reflections in the glass. Its first aromas are of red berries, with the oak and amphora ageing suggesting a more textured, composed style than a straightforward, fruit-led rosé.
The available vintage notes do not provide a detailed palate description or specific guidance on ageing potential. Enjoy it while its freshness and fruit are expressive.
Production
The 44-hectare estate lies in the IGP Coteaux de l’Ardèche, west of the Rhône, where clay and limestone soils shape the wines. For L’Audacieuse, grapes from the Serre de Brujas and Serre de Berty parcels were carefully selected and hand-harvested at a restrained yield of 30 hl/ha. The 2023 cuvée is described as 60% Syrah, 20% Grenache Noir and 20% Viognier. It matured on its natural fine lees, 70% in demi-muids and 30% in amphorae; light bâtonnage took place towards the end of fermentation. The wine was neither fined nor subjected to other mechanical handling, and received only light filtration.
Food & Serving
Serve lightly chilled, around 10–12°C, with grilled prawns, seared salmon, Provençal vegetables or charcuterie. Its more structured style should also suit roast chicken. Decanting is not necessary; open shortly before serving to let the aromas emerge.
Producer
Château de la Selve is a 44-hectare estate in the Ardèche, on the western side of the Rhône wine region. Winemaker Benoît Chazallon makes organic and biodynamic wines here, including L’Audacieuse, which reflects the estate’s focus on carefully selected parcels and low-intervention cellar work. Further details of the château’s history and notable achievements were not provided.
