Description
Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2003 is a benchmark Rhône red from one of the appellation’s most respected estates. Crafted from a classic blend led by Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah and Cinsault, it combines depth, structure and unmistakable Southern Rhône character. With origins reaching back to 1549, Beaucastel brings centuries of heritage to every bottle.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine shows a deep ruby color that hints at its intensity and maturity. The nose is generous and layered, with dark berries, black cherry, dried herbs, spice and subtle leather notes that add complexity and a distinctly savory edge.
On the palate, it is full-bodied and richly textured, unfolding with black pepper, ripe dark fruit, garrigue herbs and a touch of cocoa. The finish is long, elegant and persistent, with enough structure to continue rewarding careful cellaring, though it is already drinking beautifully now.
Production
Produced in Châteauneuf-du-Pape in the Rhône Valley, this wine reflects the stony soils and warm Mediterranean climate that give the appellation its signature power and aromatic complexity. Château de Beaucastel is known for its traditional, terroir-driven approach, with a focus on preserving balance and authenticity in the vineyard and cellar. The blend of varieties is vinified to express both richness and finesse, resulting in a wine with concentration, freshness and notable aging potential.
Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for braised lamb, roasted game, grilled steak and other richly flavored meat dishes. It also pairs well with mature cheeses and hearty Mediterranean cuisine. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for at least one hour if drinking now to allow the aromatics and texture to fully open up.
Producer
Château de Beaucastel is one of the great historic estates of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, with roots dating back to the 16th century. The Perrin family has helped define its reputation for quality, consistency and respect for tradition, making it a reference point for the region. Over the years, the estate has earned international acclaim for producing some of the Rhône Valley’s most distinctive and age-worthy wines.
