A distinguished Pauillac from one of Bordeaux’s celebrated modern vintages, Château Clerc Milon 2010 combines concentration and structure with the polish expected of a 5ème Grand Cru Classé. Owned by the Rothschild family since 1970, the estate is closely associated with the neighbouring Château Mouton Rothschild and Château Lafite Rothschild.
Tasting Notes
Deep ruby in colour, it opens with an intense, layered bouquet of blackcurrant and ripe dark berries, alongside cedar, spice and dark chocolate. On the palate, ripe fruit is framed by fresh acidity and integrated tannins, giving the wine both depth and a velvety texture. The long finish brings notes of liquorice, mineral character and classic Pauillac spice.
The 2010 vintage is prized for its structure, concentration and capacity to age. With correct storage, this bottle can continue to evolve, though its precise drinking window will depend on its provenance and condition.
Production
The blend comprises 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot and 1% Carménère. The estate’s vineyards lie in a highly regarded part of Pauillac, close to Mouton Rothschild and Lafite Rothschild. The long ripening season of 2010 helped deliver concentrated fruit and notable freshness; specific harvesting and vinification details are not available.
Food & Serving
Serve at 16–18°C with beef tenderloin, ribeye, rack of lamb, game, mushrooms or other rich French meat dishes. Decant for one to two hours if the wine would benefit from aeration, taking its age and development in the bottle into account.
Producer
Château Clerc Milon has been owned by the Baron Philippe de Rothschild family since 1970. Classified as a 5ème Grand Cru Classé in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, it is one of Pauillac’s recognised estates and shares a close geographical and historical connection with the Rothschild-owned Château Mouton Rothschild. Its label features two dancing figures inspired by a 17th-century goldsmith’s work in the Château Mouton Rothschild art collection.
