Carsten Saalwächter Weißer Burgunder Hoher Fels 2021

Carsten Saalwächter’s Weißer Burgunder Hoher Fels 2021 is a distinctive, site-led Pinot Blanc from Rheinhessen, shaped by a north-facing parcel rooted in bare limestone. Only the most characterful barrels are selected for this flagship bottling, placing it at the top of the producer’s Pinot Blanc range.

Tasting Notes
The nose is restrained rather than overtly fruity, with hints of citrus and Granny Smith apple alongside shell, seaweed and a flinty, mineral edge. On the palate, the wine continues with a focused, taut character and a saline impression.

Production
The grapes come from a slightly north-facing parcel above an old quarry, where the vines grow on pure limestone rock. The wine is matured in Saalwächter’s historic cellar in Ingelheim, and only the best and most distinctive barrels are chosen for the final cuvée. Harvesting and vinification details are not specified.

Food & Serving
Its focused, saline profile should suit simply prepared fish, shellfish or roast poultry, as well as dishes with herbs and a light citrus dressing. Serve lightly chilled, around 10–12°C; a short period of air in the glass should be sufficient, with no extended decanting necessary.
