Brovia Barolo Villero 2020 is a benchmark single-vineyard Barolo from one of Castiglione Falletto’s most revered crus. Crafted from 100% Nebbiolo, this wine captures the depth, precision and haunting perfume that have made Barolo one of Italy’s most collectible reds. Villero is known for producing particularly poised and ageworthy Barolo, and 2020 is a vintage that combines purity of fruit with classical structure.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, Brovia Barolo Villero 2020 shows a luminous garnet hue with brick-tinged edges, typical of fine Nebbiolo. The nose is refined and layered, opening with rose petals, violet and dried herbs, followed by red cherry, wild strawberry, blood orange, anise, sweet tobacco and a hint of tar and spice. On the palate, the wine is elegant yet firmly structured, with finely etched tannins and vibrant acidity driving through a core of red currant, cherry and pomegranate. Notes of licorice, crushed stone, underbrush and a subtle savory edge unfold with air, leading to a long, resonant finish marked by floral and mineral tones. Still youthful, this Barolo will reward patience; it has excellent aging potential of 10–20 years in a good cellar, gaining complexity, truffle notes and silkier texture over time.

Production
Villero is a south- to southwest-facing cru in Castiglione Falletto, prized for its calcareous clay and marl soils that give Barolo both aromatic finesse and structural backbone. Brovia farms the vineyard with meticulous, low-intervention methods, keeping yields modest to concentrate flavor and faithfully express the terroir. Grapes are hand-harvested at optimal ripeness, carefully sorted, and fermented traditionally with extended maceration to extract Nebbiolo’s fine tannins and complex aromas. The wine is then aged in large neutral Slavonian and French oak casks for several years, allowing slow, gentle evolution without overt wood influence, before resting in bottle prior to release.

Food & Serving
This Barolo shines alongside refined dishes such as truffle risotto, tajarin with butter and sage, braised veal shank, roasted lamb, game birds, and mature hard cheeses like Parmigiano Reggiano or aged Pecorino. Serve at 16–18°C, ideally in large Burgundy or Barolo glasses to allow the aromas to fully expand. Decanting for 1–2 hours in its youth will help soften the tannins and reveal more of Villero’s floral and mineral complexity; older bottles should be decanted gently, just before serving.
