Description

Braida’s Bricco della Bigotta is a single-vineyard Barbera d’Asti DOCG from Rocchetta Tanaro, showcasing the grape’s generous fruit in a powerful yet balanced style. Made from Barbera grown in Monferrato, it reflects the pioneering vision that has helped raise the variety’s standing since Giacomo Bologna founded the winery in 1961.

Tasting Notes
The wine is garnet-ruby in colour with violet highlights. Its layered bouquet combines ripe plum, cherry and violet with balsamic notes, liquorice and vanilla. On the palate, dark fruit and warm spice meet lively freshness, mature tannins and elegant toasted-coffee nuances, leading to a long, persistent finish. Its concentration and structure suggest good potential for further bottle ageing.

Production
The fruit comes from old vines on the Bricco della Bigotta single vineyard in Rocchetta Tanaro, where a south-west-facing exposure and soils of sand and calcareous clay contribute aromatic intensity and mineral freshness. The grapes undergo around 20 days of skin maceration to extract colour and structure. After fermentation, the wine matures for 15–18 months in small oak barrels, followed by a further year in bottle; harvesting methods are not specified.

Food & Serving
Serve at around 16–18°C, with a short decant of about an hour to let the aromas open. Its ripe fruit, freshness and firm structure make it a natural match for braised or grilled red meats, game, rich pasta dishes and aged cheeses.

Producer
Braida, based in Monferrato, has played a defining role in the modern reputation of Barbera. Founded in 1961 by Giacomo Bologna, the winery became known for a pioneering approach to the grape and a focus on expressive, carefully crafted wines. Today, under the guidance of Giuseppe Bologna, it continues to make wines that highlight the character of their vineyard origins.
