Description
Bottega Vinai Gewurztraminer 2024 is a vibrant, aromatic white from the cool, alpine slopes of Trentino-Alto Adige in Northern Italy. Made from Traminer Aromatico – the local expression of the famous Gewürztraminer grape – it captures the grape’s exotic perfume while staying wonderfully fresh and food‑friendly. This cuvée showcases the historic home of the variety around Termeno (Tramin), from where it spread in the 16th century to Alsace and key German regions such as Württemberg and Pfalz.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Bottega Vinai Gewurztraminer 2024 typically shows a bright, pale straw-yellow colour with light golden highlights, hinting at its rich aromatic profile. The nose is intensely perfumed and expressive: expect notes of rose petals, lychee, white peach and ripe pear, layered with hints of orange blossom, exotic spices (cardamom, clove) and a touch of fresh ginger. Subtle floral and herbal nuances reflect the cool mountain influence of Trentino-Alto Adige.
On the palate, this wine is medium-bodied yet generous, with a smooth, almost oily texture balanced by lively alpine acidity. Flavours of tropical fruit, stone fruit and citrus peel intermingle with Turkish delight, honey and a gentle hint of bitter almond on the finish. The finish is long, aromatic and slightly spicy, making each sip very moreish. Enjoy it in its youth for maximum aromatic intensity; it will comfortably evolve over 2–4 years, gaining a little more honeyed complexity while retaining its varietal character.
Production
The Traminer Aromatico grapes for Bottega Vinai Gewurztraminer 2024 are sourced from selected vineyards in Trentino-Alto Adige, an area framed by the Dolomites where cool nights and warm, sunny days help preserve acidity and concentrate aromatics. The soils here are typically a mix of calcareous, alluvial and glacial deposits, offering excellent drainage and mineral tension to the wine. Grapes are harvested by hand at optimal ripeness to capture both perfume and freshness, then gently pressed to avoid extracting bitterness from the skins. A cool, temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks preserves the delicate floral and fruity aromas that define Gewürztraminer. The wine is then aged briefly on fine lees in tank to enhance texture and complexity before bottling, without significant oak influence, so the grape’s natural expressiveness can shine.
Food & Serving
This Gewurztraminer is a versatile partner at the table, especially with aromatic and mildly spicy cuisines. It pairs beautifully with Thai or Vietnamese dishes, sushi, mildly spiced Indian curries, and Middle Eastern mezze. Closer to home, try it with blue and washed-rind cheeses, foie gras, rich pâtés, smoked salmon, or aromatic dishes featuring ginger, coriander and lemongrass. Serve well-chilled but not icy, ideally at 8–10°C, to allow the bouquet to open without losing freshness. Decanting is generally not necessary, but pouring into larger white wine glasses and giving it a few minutes in the glass will help the aromatics fully express themselves.
