Description

Bonnet-Ponson Champagne 1er Cru Seconde Nature is a pure, low-intervention expression of Champagne from a respected grower-producer in the Montagne de Reims. Crafted from a classic blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier, and Pinot Noir, it offers the kind of precision, depth, and energy that make extra-brut Champagnes so compelling. As a Premier Cru cuvée, it reflects both the character of the vineyards and the house’s long-standing commitment to authentic, terroir-driven Champagne.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a bright, fine mousse and a pale straw-gold colour with a refined, elegant sheen. The nose is fresh and layered, with citrus peel, green apple, white flowers, crushed stone, brioche, and subtle nutty notes coming through as it opens. The palate is dry, focused, and beautifully structured, balancing crisp orchard fruit with chalky minerality and a subtle vinous depth from the blend. Its “Seconde Nature” style suggests minimal dosage, making the finish particularly clean and persistent, with excellent aging potential for those who enjoy Champagne gaining further complexity over time.

Production
This Premier Cru Champagne is sourced from carefully selected vineyards in Champagne, where chalk, limestone, and clay soils help shape its tension and finesse. Grapes are typically harvested by hand to preserve fruit quality, then vinified with attention to precision and balance, allowing the terroir to remain at the forefront. The low-dosage, nature-driven style emphasizes purity and expression over overt sweetness.

Food & Serving
This Champagne pairs wonderfully with oysters, sashimi, aged Comté, prawns, roast chicken, and other dishes that benefit from freshness and finesse. Serve well chilled at around 8–10°C, and consider brief decanting only if you want to let the wine open up slightly in the glass—though it is generally best enjoyed straight from the bottle.

Producer
Bonnet-Ponson is a family-run Champagne house with roots stretching back generations in the village of Chamery, in the Premier Cru heart of the Montagne de Reims. Known for its thoughtful vineyard work and commitment to expressive, terroir-focused wines, the estate has gained recognition for producing Champagnes with clarity, energy, and character. Its reputation continues to grow among lovers of authentic grower Champagne.
