Description
Bollinger La Grande Année Brut Champagne 2007 is a prestige cuvée made only in exceptional vintages, and it shows the house’s signature depth, precision, and remarkable Pinot Noir-led style. Crafted from Grand and Premier Cru fruit and matured with extraordinary care, it combines power with elegance in a way that has made La Grande Année one of Champagne’s most admired benchmark wines.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a bright white-golden hue with a refined, persistent mousse. The bouquet is beautifully layered, unfolding with ripe apricot, pink grapefruit, chalk, toast, and almond nougat, alongside subtle hints of citrus and mineral freshness.
On the palate, it is full-bodied yet highly polished, with a fine, pure texture and impressive structure. The finish is long, dry, and saline, leaving a lingering impression of citrus and chalky minerality. It is still youthful and has excellent aging potential, with the ability to develop further complexity over the next 12 to 15 years or more.
Production
La Grande Année 2007 is blended from 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay sourced from 14 crus, with key parcels from Aÿ and Verzenay for Pinot Noir, and Avize, Cramant, and Oger for Chardonnay. Bollinger vinifies the wine entirely in small oak barrels, using a large proportion of well-aged casks, and the wine is then aged under natural cork for extended lees development. All work is carried out by hand, from harvest through bottling, reflecting the house’s meticulous approach and its focus on terroir expression.
Food & Serving
This Champagne pairs beautifully with refined dishes such as seared scallops, lobster, roast chicken, truffle risotto, or aged Comté and Parmesan. Serve chilled, ideally at 8–10°C, and consider brief decanting only if the wine seems especially closed on opening; otherwise, it is best enjoyed directly from the bottle to preserve its freshness and finesse.
Producer
Founded in 1829, Champagne Bollinger is one of the most respected houses in the region, known for its sophisticated, structured style and its exceptional affinity with Pinot Noir. With 179 hectares of vineyards, much of it Grand and Premier Cru, and a vast reserve of magnums to preserve consistency, Bollinger has earned a reputation for depth, craftsmanship, and long-lived Champagnes. The house’s best wines are also given extended cellar time, often well beyond appellation requirements, underscoring its belief in patience and quality.
