Bodegas Cepa 21 2022 is the estate’s signature red: a modern, powerful take on Tempranillo that combines ripe fruit, polished structure, and a clear sense of place. Sourced from high-altitude vineyards above the Duero River, it reflects the best of Castilla y León with concentration, balance, and a distinctly contemporary Spanish style.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep ruby-red color with violet highlights. The nose opens with ripe black fruit such as blackcurrant and blackberry, layered with notes of warm tobacco, vanilla, and subtle toasted oak. On the palate, it is juicy and full-bodied, with silky tannins, lively acidity, and a round, creamy texture. The finish lingers with hints of chocolate and a delicate balsamic nuance. While approachable now, it has the structure to develop further complexity over the next several years.

Production
The grapes come from vineyards in Castrillo de Duero and surrounding areas, planted at 750–850 meters above sea level on limestone and clay soils that help produce concentrated, precise Tempranillo. Harvesting is done by hand, with careful sorting on arrival at the winery. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel under controlled cool temperatures for around 18 days, followed by malolactic fermentation and 12 months of aging in French oak barrels, mostly new. The wine is bottled with minimal filtration and without fining to preserve structure and terroir expression.

Food & Serving
This is a versatile food wine, ideal with grilled beef, lamb, roasted game, hearty stews, or mature hard cheeses. Serve it at 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 30–60 minutes if you want to open up the aromas and soften the tannins.
