Description
Antinori Tormaresca Bocca di Lupo Kaloro Moscato di Trani Dolce 2023 is a refined, golden dessert wine that captures the sun-drenched charm of Puglia in a half bottle. Crafted from Moscato Reale grapes grown in the prestigious Bocca di Lupo estate, it offers an elegant balance of richness, freshness, and aromatic intensity. This wine is a modern expression of the historic Moscato di Trani style, once considered one of Southern Italy’s most prized sweet wines.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Kaloro shows a luminous straw-gold hue with bright, inviting reflections that hint at its concentration. The nose is immediately expressive and complex: fragrant notes of orange blossom, jasmine, and acacia honey mingle with candied citrus peel, apricot, ripe peach, and a subtle hint of Mediterranean herbs and spice.
On the palate, the wine is lusciously sweet but never cloying, thanks to a vibrant, saline-driven acidity that keeps everything in perfect balance. Layers of apricot jam, candied lemon, yellow plum, and honeyed tropical fruit unfold gracefully, with a long, persistent finish that recalls citrus zest and floral tones. Enjoyable in its youth for its purity and aromatic lift, this dessert wine can develop additional complexity and honeyed depth over 6–8 years from the vintage, gaining notes of dried fruit and spice with careful cellaring.
Production
Kaloro is crafted from Moscato Reale (Moscato Giallo) grapes grown in the Bocca di Lupo estate, set in the higher altitudes of the Murgia hills in northern Puglia. Here, limestone-rich soils, good diurnal temperature shifts, and constant breezes help preserve aromatic freshness and build natural acidity in this intensely perfumed variety. Grapes are carefully selected and harvested when perfectly ripe, often slightly late to concentrate sugars and flavors, then gently pressed. Fermentation takes place at controlled temperatures, typically in stainless steel, to protect the variety’s delicate aromatics. The wine is then aged in tank and bottle to harmonize sweetness, texture, and aroma before release, resulting in a dessert wine that is both opulent and finely detailed.
Food & Serving
This Moscato di Trani Dolce is an excellent match for classic Italian pastries—think almond biscotti, pasticciotti, or sfogliatelle—as well as fruit tarts, crème brûlée, and panna cotta with citrus or stone fruit. It also pairs beautifully with blue cheeses and aged goat cheeses, where its sweetness offsets the salt and intensity of the cheese. Serve well chilled, around 8–10 °C (46–50 °F), to highlight its aromatic lift and freshness. Decanting is not necessary; simply open the bottle a few minutes before serving to allow the bouquet to blossom in the glass.
