Description

Bideona Laderas 2023 is a fresh, mineral-led Rioja Alavesa Tempranillo, shaped by hillside vineyards rather than pronounced oak. Its name means “slopes,” reflecting the small, calcareous sites below the Sierra Cantabria; the blend also nods to local tradition, with small amounts of other red varieties found among the vines.

Tasting Notes
Bright and inviting, with aromas of cherry, raspberry and darker forest berries, lifted by violet, thyme and subtle spice. The palate is juicy and medium-bodied, with lively acidity, concentrated fruit and firm yet finely polished tannins. A fresh, lightly spicy, mineral finish completes the profile. Enjoy now for its fruit and freshness, or cellar it through around 2030–2031.

Production
The grapes come from small, calcareous clay vineyards spread across eight villages in Rioja Alavesa, on slopes below the Sierra Cantabria. The vines average about 30 years of age, and the grapes are hand-harvested and destemmed. Fermentation and maturation take place using a combination of stainless steel, concrete, used barriques and larger casks, with the blend and ageing tailored to the vintage to preserve fruit, freshness and the character of the limestone-rich sites rather than impart a strong oak flavour.

Food & Serving
Serve at 15–16°C, opening the bottle 20–30 minutes beforehand. It pairs well with lamb, grilled pork, roast chicken, charcuterie, tapas, mushroom dishes and firm cheeses.
