Description
Arterberry Maresh Chardonnay Maresh Vineyard 2021 is a beautifully restrained Oregon Chardonnay that showcases purity, freshness, and precision rather than heavy oak or overt richness. Best known for their Pinot Noir, Arterberry Maresh also crafts a handful of standout Chardonnays under Jim Maresh’s thoughtful, low-intervention approach, resulting in a wine with real character and a distinctly cool-climate profile.
Tasting Notes
Pale to medium straw in the glass, it opens with bright citrus-driven aromas of lemon and orange, layered with grapefruit and a subtle hint of pear. On the palate, those same citrus notes carry through with orange zest, floral nuances, and a touch of spice, all framed by a satisfying sense of weight.
What keeps everything in balance is the vibrant acidity, which gives the wine freshness, lift, and definition. It is already very enjoyable now, but it also has the structure and concentration to develop further over time.
Production
Sourced from Maresh Vineyard in Oregon, this Chardonnay reflects the cool, expressive terroir of the region, where freshness and finesse tend to take precedence over opulence. Jim Maresh’s philosophy centers on minimal intervention in both vineyard and cellar, allowing the fruit to speak clearly and preserving the wine’s natural tension and purity. The result is a Chardonnay with a polished, terroir-driven style that feels very much of Oregon.
Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for roasted chicken, grilled salmon, shellfish, creamy pasta dishes, or vegetables with a light buttery finish. Serve chilled at around 10–12°C, and decanting is generally not necessary, though a short aeration can help open up the wine if enjoyed young.
Producer
Arterberry Maresh is a respected Oregon producer with a strong reputation for site-driven wines, especially Pinot Noir from the Dundee Hills. Under the guidance of Jim Maresh, the winery has become known for its elegant, low-intervention style and its ability to produce wines of clarity and depth. Their Chardonnays, though made in smaller quantities, have earned recognition for standing apart from more oak-driven American styles.
