Artadi Valdegines 2017 is a focused, terroir-driven Rioja from a single east-facing vineyard in Laguardia, crafted entirely from Tempranillo (locally known as Tinto Fino). With its combination of precision, freshness, and serious structure, it reflects Artadi’s reputation for elevating site-specific wines in Rioja Alavesa.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep, intense color. The nose opens with vivid red and black fruit, including cherry, plum, and blackberry, layered with limestone-driven minerality, liquorice, and a subtle hint of eucalyptus. On the palate, the wine is firm yet refined, with a clear sense of tension and definition. The tannins are well shaped and slightly angular, giving the wine both character and excellent aging potential. While already enjoyable, it should gain added complexity and harmony with 8–12 years of cellar time, or longer under ideal conditions.

Production
Valdegines comes from an east-facing slope in Laguardia, in Rioja Alavesa, at around 600 meters above sea level. The vineyard’s calcareous clay and sandy soils, together with the elevated site, support slow ripening and help preserve the freshness that defines the wine’s style. The vintage’s warm growing season and cool nights contributed to its balance of ripe fruit and bright structure; further vinification details are not provided.

Food & Serving
This wine is especially well suited to richer dishes such as grilled meats, game with berries, slow-braised preparations, and mature cheeses. Serve it at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting it for at least 1 hour if drinking it young to help the wine open up and soften its more structured edges.
