Description

Domaine Armand Rousseau’s Mazy-Chambertin Grand Cru 2002 is a striking expression of one of Gevrey-Chambertin’s most powerful climats, combining the finesse of a classic Burgundy vintage with the site’s naturally deep, wild character. As a Grand Cru Pinot Noir from a highly respected estate, it offers both pedigree and complexity, with 2002 widely regarded as an outstanding year in Burgundy for freshness, balance, and concentration.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this wine shows the depth and brightness expected of mature Grand Cru Burgundy, with dark fruit at the core and a refined, evolving bouquet. Aromas of blackberry, black cherry, forest floor, spice, and a touch of smoke lead into more developed notes of truffle, leather, and earthy nuance, adding impressive dimension. The palate is rich and layered, yet remains lifted by fresh acidity and a sense of precision that keeps the wine in balance. Tannins are structured but now beautifully softened and integrated, supporting a long, persistent finish. It is at a very appealing drinking stage now, though it still has the structure to develop further with careful cellaring.

Production
Mazy-Chambertin is one of the celebrated Grand Cru sites of Gevrey-Chambertin in Burgundy, known for producing wines with real depth, authority, and mineral drive. Domaine Armand Rousseau is renowned for working with exceptional old-vine parcels and a meticulous approach in both vineyard and cellar, allowing the character of the terroir to come through with clarity. The 2002 vintage benefited from favourable weather conditions, producing grapes with excellent ripeness, concentration, and vibrant acidity.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with refined dishes such as roast duck, game birds, beef tenderloin, braised lamb, or mushroom-based cuisine. It is best served at around 16–18°C, and decanting for 30–60 minutes is recommended if opening now, especially to allow the mature aromas to fully unfold.

Producer
Domaine Armand Rousseau is one of Burgundy’s most iconic producers, established in the early 20th century and long associated with benchmark wines from Gevrey-Chambertin. The estate is highly regarded for its Grand Cru holdings and for producing Pinot Noir with exceptional purity, structure, and ageing potential. Its wines are among the most sought-after in Burgundy and have helped define the region’s reputation for elegant, terroir-driven Pinot Noir.
