Description

Domaine Armand Rousseau’s Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaux St. Jacques 2002 is a refined and highly sought-after Burgundy from one of the region’s most celebrated estates. Sourced from one of Gevrey-Chambertin’s cooler and more expressive premier cru sites, it combines the structure of the appellation with the finesse and precision that have made Rousseau a benchmark name in Pinot Noir.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a beautiful ruby-garnet hue, now beginning to take on the softer, more nuanced tones of mature Burgundy. The bouquet is layered and elegant, with aromas of ripe cherry, blackcurrant, forest floor, spice, and a delicate mineral edge. On the palate, the wine is structured yet graceful, with fine, well-integrated tannins, vibrant acidity, and impressive depth. Ripe red and dark berry fruit is woven through earthy, savory notes and subtle spice, leading to a long, persistent finish. While already drinking beautifully, it still has the capacity to evolve further, gaining tertiary complexity with notes of leather, truffle, and tobacco.

Production
Lavaux St. Jacques is one of the most distinguished premier cru vineyards in Gevrey-Chambertin, known for its cooler exposure and stony soils, which help produce wines of freshness, structure, and aromatic detail. Made entirely from Pinot Noir, this wine reflects the precision and restraint of the site, with careful vineyard work and traditional Burgundian vinification aimed at preserving purity, balance, and terroir expression.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with refined dishes such as roast duck, game birds, beef tenderloin, lamb, wild mushrooms, or truffled dishes. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for about 30–60 minutes if opened young or slightly closed, though mature bottles may only need a gentle splash decant to preserve their delicacy.

Producer
Domaine Armand Rousseau is one of Burgundy’s most iconic producers, long admired for its Grand Cru and Premier Cru bottlings from Gevrey-Chambertin. Founded in the early 20th century and built on a philosophy of precision, restraint, and respect for terroir, the domaine has earned an international reputation for producing some of the region’s most elegant and collectible Pinot Noir wines.
