Description

Domaine Armand Rousseau’s Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos St. Jacques 2013 is a striking example of one of Burgundy’s most coveted Premier Cru vineyards. In a cooler vintage that favored freshness and precision, it captures the estate’s signature finesse, purity, and remarkable sense of place.

Tasting Notes
Pale to medium ruby in the glass, it opens with an elegant bouquet of red berries, especially raspberry and cherry, layered with violet, forest floor, gentle spice, and a subtle mineral edge. The aromatics are refined rather than showy, gradually revealing more complexity with air. On the palate, this is a beautifully poised Pinot Noir with a silky texture, vibrant acidity, and delicate, well-integrated tannins. It finishes long and graceful, with lingering notes of spice and minerality. Already approachable, it also has the structure and balance to evolve beautifully over the next decade or more.

Production
Clos St. Jacques is one of Gevrey-Chambertin’s most celebrated Premier Cru sites, known for producing wines of both power and refinement. The 2013 vintage benefited from a cooler growing season, which helped preserve acidity and aromatic clarity, while careful vineyard work and the estate’s traditional winemaking approach ensured purity, precision, and expressive terroir character.

Food & Serving
Ideal with roasted duck, pigeon, quail, or game birds, as well as mushroom-based dishes, veal, and fine lamb preparations. Serve at 16–18°C. Decanting for about 1 hour is recommended if opening young, though older bottles should be handled more gently to preserve their delicate aromatics.

Producer
Domaine Armand Rousseau is one of the great names of Burgundy, with a long-standing reputation for producing some of the region’s most sought-after Pinot Noir wines. Based in Gevrey-Chambertin, the domaine has become synonymous with elegance, restraint, and exceptional vineyard expression, and its wines are widely regarded as benchmarks for the appellation and beyond.
