Description

Domaine Armand Rousseau’s Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos St. Jacques 2010 is a benchmark Burgundy: precise, refined, and deeply expressive of one of Gevrey-Chambertin’s most sought-after vineyards. The cool yet favourable 2010 growing season produced a wine of remarkable poise, combining bright fruit, structure, and the understated power that has made Rousseau one of the region’s most revered names.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows the classic depth and transparency of great Pinot Noir, with a vibrant core of red cherry and raspberry lifted by darker plum and a touch of cocoa. The bouquet is beautifully layered, unfolding with notes of forest floor, violets, spice, and a subtle mineral edge that adds freshness and definition. On the palate, the wine is both structured and graceful, with finely integrated tannins and lively acidity creating a silk-like texture and excellent balance. The fruit is generous but never heavy, supported by earthy, spicy nuances and a long, elegant finish. Already expressive, it has the concentration and harmony to age and develop further over many years.

Production
Clos St. Jacques is one of the crown jewels of Gevrey-Chambertin, and in Rousseau’s hands its limestone-rich terroir is translated into a wine of exceptional finesse and clarity. The 2010 vintage benefited from a cool growing season that encouraged freshness and precision, with harvesting carried out to preserve balance and aromatic detail. Vinification follows Domaine Armand Rousseau’s meticulous Burgundian approach, emphasising purity of fruit, structure, and understated complexity.

Food & Serving
This wine is a superb match for dishes that reflect its elegance and depth, such as roast duck, pigeon, quail, veal, or mushroom-based dishes like truffle risotto. It also pairs beautifully with game birds and aged cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if opening young, though older bottles should be handled more gently to preserve delicacy.

Producer
Founded in the early 20th century, Domaine Armand Rousseau has become one of Burgundy’s most iconic estates and a reference point for Gevrey-Chambertin. The domaine is celebrated for wines of purity, precision, and longevity, with holdings in some of the region’s most prestigious vineyards, including Clos St. Jacques and several grand crus. Its reputation for consistency and excellence has made it one of the most respected producers in all of Burgundy.
