Description

Domaine Armand Rousseau’s Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos St. Jacques 2008 is a benchmark Burgundy that captures both the elegance of Pinot Noir and the depth of one of Gevrey-Chambertin’s most revered sites. Often regarded as Grand Cru in all but name, Clos St. Jacques is celebrated for producing wines of remarkable precision, finesse, and age-worthy structure.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this 2008 shows the classic poise of a cool Burgundy vintage, with a vivid ruby hue and remarkable clarity. The nose is layered and expressive, offering red cherry, raspberry, floral notes, spice, and a subtle mineral edge that adds lift and definition. On the palate, the wine is refined and beautifully balanced, with bright acidity driving the fruit and giving the wine energy and length. The tannins are fine and seamlessly integrated, creating a silky texture, while the finish lingers with earthy, forest-floor nuances and gentle spice. It is already compelling now, but it has the structure and complexity to evolve gracefully over the next 5–10 years and beyond.

Production
Sourced from the distinguished Clos St. Jacques vineyard in Gevrey-Chambertin, this Premier Cru benefits from an exceptional terroir known for producing wines of outstanding depth and complexity. The 2008 vintage came from a cool growing season, which helped preserve freshness, natural acidity, and a very precise fruit profile. Vinification at Domaine Armand Rousseau is guided by a highly respected, restrained approach that emphasizes purity, balance, and the character of the vineyard rather than heavy intervention.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with refined dishes such as roast duck, quail, pigeon, veal, mushroom risotto, or game birds with a light sauce. It also works well with earthy dishes featuring truffle, morels, or lentils. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 30–60 minutes if drinking young to allow the aromatics to open fully.

Producer
Domaine Armand Rousseau is one of Burgundy’s most iconic producers, with deep roots in Gevrey-Chambertin and a long-standing reputation for producing some of the Côte de Nuits’ finest Pinot Noir. Founded in the early 20th century, the domaine is especially admired for its masterful expression of terroir and its consistently elegant, cellar-worthy wines. Its holdings in many of the region’s most prestigious vineyards have earned it enduring acclaim among collectors and Burgundy lovers worldwide.
