Description
Armand Rousseau Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cazetiers 2009 is a beautiful expression of one of Burgundy’s most celebrated terroirs, crafted by one of the region’s most revered domaines. The warm 2009 vintage brought exceptional ripeness and depth, while Rousseau’s famously precise touch preserves the wine’s signature elegance, structure, and sense of place.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Pinot Noir shows a deep, refined ruby color hinting at its concentration. The nose opens with layers of ripe black cherry, cassis, and dark berry fruit, followed by notes of spice, forest floor, subtle smoke, and earthy minerality.
On the palate, it is richly textured yet finely balanced, with velvety tannins and vibrant acidity giving the wine lift and definition. The fruit is generous and mature, but never heavy, with a long, persistent finish marked by spice, soil-driven complexity, and a graceful Burgundian finesse. It has excellent aging potential and should continue to develop beautifully over time.
Production
Les Cazetiers is a Premier Cru vineyard in Gevrey-Chambertin, known for producing wines with both power and refinement, supported by limestone-rich soils and an excellent hillside exposure. The 2009 vintage benefited from warm, sunny conditions that allowed the grapes to reach full phenolic ripeness, resulting in concentrated fruit and supple tannins.
Domaine Armand Rousseau is known for careful vineyard work and restrained vinification that emphasizes purity and terroir expression rather than overt extraction. The result is a wine that feels deeply rooted in its origin, with impressive balance and a distinctly elegant structure.
Food & Serving
This wine pairs wonderfully with roasted duck, game birds, beef fillet, braised lamb, or dishes featuring mushrooms and truffle. It also works beautifully with aged cheeses that can match its depth and structure. Serve at around 16-18°C, and decanting for 30-60 minutes is recommended, especially if enjoyed young, to allow the aromas and texture to open fully.
Producer
Domaine Armand Rousseau is one of Burgundy’s legendary producers, founded in the early 20th century and now regarded as a benchmark for Gevrey-Chambertin and the Côte de Nuits. The domaine has earned an exceptional reputation for producing wines of precision, longevity, and profound terroir expression, with holdings in some of the region’s most prized vineyards. Its Grand Cru and Premier Cru bottlings are highly sought after worldwide and consistently rank among the finest examples of Pinot Noir from Burgundy.
