Argiolas Angialis 2019 is a Sardinian passito dessert wine from the Isola dei Nuraghi IGT, made from the island’s native Nasco and Malvasia di Cagliari grapes. Its sun-concentrated fruit, twelve months in barriques and lively, saline edge reflect the Argiolas family’s long-standing commitment to Sardinia’s wine traditions, which they have cultivated since 1938.
Tasting Notes
Deep golden yellow in the glass, Angialis opens with aromas of white flowers, honey and dried apricot, alongside the distinctive aromatic character of Nasco. The palate is rounded and naturally sweet, with ripe dried-fruit notes balanced by freshness and a savoury, salty mineral quality.
Production
The grapes grow in clay- and silica-rich soils in Sardinia, whose mineral character helps balance the wine’s natural sweetness. After the bunches are dried in the sun to concentrate their sugars and aromas, they are gently pressed and the must is slowly fermented in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks. The wine then matures for twelve months in barriques, gaining depth and structure. Enjoy while its fruit and freshness are expressive; further cellaring may bring added complexity.
Food & Serving
Serve lightly chilled, around 10–12°C, with dry pastries or mature cheeses. Its sweetness and savoury freshness also make it a fitting finale to a meal. Decanting is generally unnecessary; opening the bottle shortly before serving gives the aromas time to emerge.
Producer
Founded in 1938, Argiolas is a family winery devoted to showcasing Sardinia’s native grape varieties and distinctive island terroir. The estate is an established name in Sardinian wine, with Angialis offering a rich expression of the region’s passito tradition.
