Description

Andrias Gvino Mtsvane Dry Amber Wine 2023 is a characterful Georgian orange wine crafted from the indigenous Kakhuri Mtsvane grape in the historic region of Kakheti. Made in the traditional qvevri style with minimal intervention, it captures the soul of Georgia’s ancient winemaking culture in a modern, refined expression. This is a natural wine that combines authenticity, structure, and aromatic intrigue for adventurous white wine and orange wine drinkers alike.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Mtsvane shows a deep golden to amber hue, the result of several days of skin contact, with a slightly cloudy, unfiltered appearance that signals its natural, artisan production. The nose is expressive and savory, with notes of dried apricot, quince, orange peel, chamomile, and lightly bruised apple, layered over hints of walnut skin, tea leaves, and subtle spice. On the palate, the wine is dry, firmly structured, and notably tannic for a white, reflecting its orange wine style and time on the skins. Flavors of stone fruits, citrus zest, and dried herbs mingle with a gentle oxidative nuance and earthy undertones. The tannins are grippy yet well-integrated, giving the wine a pleasantly chewy texture and long, persistent finish. Enjoyable now for its freshness and vibrancy, it also has the structure to evolve over the next 3–5 years, gaining complexity and softness with time.

Production
The grapes for this wine come from Kakheti in eastern Georgia, a region renowned for its sun-drenched vineyards, stony soils, and dry continental climate—ideal conditions for the thick-skinned, aromatic Kakhuri Mtsvane variety. The fruit is farmed organically, with no synthetic chemicals used in the vineyard. After harvest, the grapes are processed according to traditional Georgian methods: the must ferments and macerates in clay qvevri buried underground, with 4–5 days of skin contact imparting color, tannin, and texture. No additives, cultured yeasts, fining agents, filtration, or sulfur are employed, resulting in a pure, unmanipulated natural wine that faithfully reflects its terroir and grape variety.

Food & Serving
This structured, tannin-rich amber wine is a versatile partner at the table and stands up beautifully to bold, flavorful dishes. It pairs particularly well with roasted or grilled meats (such as lamb, pork, or spiced chicken), aged or semi-hard cheeses, grilled vegetables, and dishes from the grill. Its firm tannins and aromatic profile also make it a superb match for spicy cuisine and contemporary fusion dishes, where heat and complex seasoning need a wine with backbone. Serve slightly cool, at around 12–14°C (54–57°F), for optimal expression. A brief decant of 15–30 minutes helps the wine open up aromatically and soften the tannins, especially when served young.

Producer
Andrias Gvino is the project of winemaker George Wolski, who is part of the new generation revitalizing Georgia’s millennia-old wine traditions with a thoughtful, low-intervention approach. Working in Kakheti, the country’s most historic and prolific wine region, he focuses on native varieties like Kakhuri Mtsvane and on the ancestral qvevri method that has defined Georgian wine culture for thousands of years. By farming organically and eschewing additives, sulfites, filtration, and clarification, Wolski produces honest, character-driven natural wines that highlight both grape and place. Andrias Gvino has quickly gained recognition among enthusiasts of authentic Georgian and orange wines, standing out for its purity, clarity of style, and strong sense of regional identity.
