Aalto 2023 is a powerful yet beautifully composed Tempranillo from Ribera del Duero, created by Mariano García, one of Spain’s most respected winemakers and a long-time force behind Vega Sicilia. It captures the serious side of Castilla y León with remarkable depth, precision, and elegance.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, Aalto 2023 shows a deep, concentrated color that hints at its rich fruit core. The nose is layered and inviting, with dark cherry, plum, and blackberry lifted by spice, coffee, liquorice, and subtle oak notes. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and dense, but what sets it apart is its balance: plush, silky tannins, ripe fruit, and a cool, fresh line that keeps everything in check. The finish is long, polished, and harmonious, and while it already drinks very well now, it has the structure to evolve gracefully over the next 8–12 years.

Production
The wine is made from 100% Tinto Fino sourced from old vines aged between 40 and 80 years. Grapes are harvested by hand and undergo strict selection before vinification, helping preserve the purity and concentration of the fruit. It then matures for around 17 months in French and American oak barrels, adding complexity without overpowering the wine’s natural character.

Food & Serving
Aalto 2023 is an excellent match for roasted lamb, grilled beef, game, rich stews, or mature hard cheeses. Serve it at 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if drinking young to let the wine open up fully and soften its structure.

Aalto is one of Ribera del Duero’s most admired names, founded in 1999 with Mariano García at the helm. García’s background at Vega Sicilia brought instant credibility, but Aalto quickly established its own identity through precision, concentration, and balance. Today, it stands among the benchmark producers in the region, known for wines that combine power, finesse, and ageing potential.
