Aalto 2021 Magnum

Aalto 2021 Magnum is a powerful yet polished Tempranillo from Castilla y León, showing the depth and concentration that have made the estate one of Spain’s most admired modern names. Sourced from old vines across Ribera del Duero and combined with fruit from the winery’s own vineyards in Valladolid, it brings together intensity, structure, and impressive finesse in a magnum format that is ideal for cellaring or sharing.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep, vivid purple color. The nose is expressive and fresh, offering dark berries, black cherry, and plum layered with vanilla from oak, plus subtle notes of spice, cocoa, and a hint of smoke. The palate is rich, full-bodied, and beautifully structured, with blackberry, blackcurrant, and blueberry joined by licorice, roasted coffee, smoked bacon, tobacco, and warming spice. The tannins are fresh and firm, giving the wine excellent shape and a long, satisfying finish. This is a wine with strong aging potential, and the magnum format will help it evolve gracefully over time.

Production
Aalto is crafted from Tempranillo grown on 40- to 80-year-old vines in leased parcels throughout Ribera del Duero, alongside younger estate vines in Valladolid. The vineyards benefit from the region’s continental climate and varied soils, which help produce fruit with both concentration and freshness. Harvesting is done entirely by hand, and the fruit is carefully selected before vinification. The wine is aged for 16 months in a combination of new and used French and American oak barrels, adding complexity, texture, and the signature vanilla-spice character without overwhelming the fruit.

Food & Serving
Aalto 2021 Magnum pairs naturally with grilled or roasted red meats, lamb, game, braised beef, and rich dishes such as slow-cooked short ribs or mushroom stews. It also works well with mature hard cheeses and hearty Spanish cuisine. Serve at 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours to allow the wine to खुल up fully and show its best balance and aromatics.
