Description
Aaron Kreichgauer’s 2024 Riesling trocken is a refined Rheinhessen Gutswein that combines bright fruit with mineral precision. Grown on limestone- and loess-influenced soils, this dry Riesling offers a modern yet distinctly terroir-driven expression of one of Germany’s most versatile wine regions. The balanced 2024 vintage is marked by clear fruit, moderate alcohol and lively acidity.
Tasting Notes
Pale and bright in appearance, the wine opens with an expressive bouquet of lime, grapefruit, green apple and white peach, complemented by delicate floral tones, fresh herbs and a subtle mineral spiciness. On the palate, it is taut, juicy and precise, with vibrant acidity carrying the ripe fruit through to a long, gently saline finish.
The combination of freshness, fruit and structure gives this Riesling an elegant, highly drinkable character. It is enjoyable in its youth for its crispness and clarity, while the mineral tension and careful élevage suggest that it can develop additional complexity over the next few years.
Production
The grapes are sourced from limestone- and loess-rich soils with clay and marl, providing tension, depth and a clear mineral character. Rheinhessen’s warm conditions are moderated by cool nights, allowing for a long and balanced ripening period. Selective hand-harvesting and environmentally conscious viticulture form the basis of the wine. After gentle pressing, the must is temperature-controlled fermented to preserve its freshness and fruit, then matured primarily in stainless steel tanks and on fine lees. The restrained use of oak keeps the wine’s natural minerality and sense of place at the forefront.
Food & Serving
Serve well chilled at around 8–10°C. This versatile Riesling is an excellent match for grilled pike-perch, scallops, oysters, veal tartare, asparagus with hollandaise sauce, Asian-inspired dishes and mature goat’s cheese. It also makes an elegant aperitif. Decanting is not necessary, although a brief period of aeration in the glass can allow its floral and mineral nuances to unfold.
