Description
Aaron Kreichgauer’s 2024 Pinot Noir trocken is a refined, terroir-driven Spätburgunder from Rheinhessen, presented as a classic Gutswein. Combining bright red-fruit character with mineral freshness and silky tannins, it reflects the modern German approach to Pinot Noir while retaining the grape’s long-standing importance in the country’s wine tradition.
Tasting Notes
The wine has an elegant ruby-red appearance. Its aroma opens with sour cherry, raspberry, redcurrant and cranberry, followed by delicate notes of violet, dried herbs, subtle spice and a light mineral nuance. On the palate, it is juicy and finely structured, with lively acidity and silky tannins supporting the vibrant red-fruit profile. The finish is harmonious, precise and gently spiced. It is approachable in its youth, while its freshness and balanced structure should allow it to develop gracefully over the next few years.
Production
The Pinot Noir vines grow on limestone- and loess-influenced soils containing clay and marl, giving the wine structure, elegance and mineral tension. Rheinhessen’s relatively warm climate is moderated by cool nights, helping the grapes retain freshness during a long ripening period. The grapes are carefully hand-harvested and gently processed before temperature-controlled fermentation, allowing precise extraction of colour, fruit and fine tannins. The wine then matures for several months on its fine lees, with discreet ageing in used oak barrels for some lots to round the texture without overshadowing the fruit.
Food & Serving
Serve lightly cool at around 14–16°C. This versatile Pinot Noir pairs beautifully with duck breast, pink-roasted veal, quail, sautéed wild mushrooms, grilled tuna and mature Comté. Its graceful structure also makes it an excellent match for refined vegetarian dishes. Decanting is not essential when the wine is young, although a short 20–30 minute airing can help reveal its aromatic detail and soften the structure.
