The 2024 Nierstein Pettenthal Riesling trocken from Weingut Kissinger-Bähr is a single-vineyard Riesling from the celebrated Pettenthal site on the Roter Hang in Rheinhessen. Defined by red slate soils, vibrant acidity and remarkable mineral precision, it offers an authentic expression of one of Germany’s most distinguished Riesling locations.

Tasting Notes
Pale and finely coloured in the glass, this dry Riesling opens with aromas of lime, grapefruit, white peach and green apple, layered with white flowers, fresh herbs and a subtle smoky-slate character. With a little air, notes of flint, citrus zest and salty minerality become increasingly apparent. The palate is taut, focused and exceptionally precise, combining crystalline fruit with vibrant acidity and a pronounced mineral tension. Its cool, elegant finish is long and refreshing. The finely structured 2024 vintage offers excellent balance and ageing potential, with further complexity likely to develop in bottle.

Production
The grapes come from the renowned Niersteiner Pettenthal vineyard on the Roter Hang, where red slate and red-brown soils contribute depth, tension and distinctive mineral character. The grapes are selectively hand-harvested and handled gently before undergoing spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts. Maturation on the fine lees in stainless-steel tanks and traditional wooden casks preserves freshness while adding texture and allowing the vineyard character to shine through.

Food & Serving
Serve well chilled at approximately 8–10°C. This Riesling is an excellent match for oysters, scallops, delicate fish, shellfish and sushi, and also pairs beautifully with poultry, Asian-inspired dishes, goat’s cheese and refined vegetable preparations. Decanting is not essential, but a short period of aeration in the glass or a brief decant can reveal additional layers of flint, citrus and spice.
