Description
The 2024 Mölsheim “Am Altenbrand” Pinot Noir trocken is a site-specific red from Rheinhessen, crafted by Aaron Kreichgauer to highlight the elegance and mineral character of its limestone-rich origin. With its precise red-fruit profile, silky tannins and refreshing structure, it offers a refined expression of German Spätburgunder. As a Lagewein, it represents a carefully selected vineyard parcel rather than a broad regional blend.
Tasting Notes
Bright ruby in appearance, this Pinot Noir opens with an expressive bouquet of red cherries, wild strawberries and raspberries, complemented by delicate violet, black tea and subtle spice. A fine mineral, almost savoury note adds depth without overwhelming the fruit.
On the palate, it is elegant, juicy and finely structured, with silky tannins and lively acidity. Red berries return alongside gentle spice and a discreet saline minerality on the long, focused finish. The 2024 vintage is marked by clarity, moderate alcohol and freshness; it can be enjoyed young for its vibrant fruit, while careful cellaring should allow additional complexity to develop over the next several years.
Production
The grapes come from a carefully selected parcel in Mölsheim, where limestone, loess and marl soils provide ideal conditions for elegant Pinot Noir. Warm days, cool nights and a long growing season encourage gradual phenolic ripening while preserving freshness and precision. Aaron Kreichgauer follows a nature-focused approach, with low yields and selective hand harvesting. After careful sorting, the grapes are gently processed and fermented under controlled conditions to preserve fruit, structure and fine tannins. Extended ageing on the fine lees, with restrained use of older wooden barrels where employed, adds complexity while keeping the vineyard character in focus.
Food & Serving
Serve lightly cool at around 14–16°C. The wine pairs beautifully with duck breast, roast veal, quail, venison, sautéed wild mushrooms and mature Comté. Its finesse also makes it a versatile match for modern vegetable-led dishes. A short decant of 20–30 minutes can help open the wine, although younger bottles may also be enjoyed directly from the glass.
