The 2023 Riesling “Vom Rotliegenden” is an expressive dry Ortswein from Rheinhessen, shaped by the region’s distinctive red, iron-rich Rotliegend soils. Made by Aaron Kreichgauer with low yields and careful hand-harvesting, it combines vibrant freshness with fine mineral depth and a distinctly terroir-driven character.

Tasting Notes
Pale and bright in appearance, the wine opens with aromas of lime, grapefruit, white peach and ripe apple, complemented by notes of lemon zest, white flowers and warm stone. A subtle flinty spice adds further complexity. On the palate, it is precise and tightly structured, with lively acidity, clear fruit and a pronounced saline minerality. The finish is long, refreshing and gently spicy. With its balance of ripe fruit and firm acidity, the 2023 vintage should develop well over the next several years, while remaining highly enjoyable in its youth.

Production
The grapes come from vineyards marked by Rotliegend, iron-rich red weathering rock dating back to the Permian period. These rare soils contribute distinctive mineral intensity, spice and structure, while Rheinhessen’s warm growing season and cool nights support ripe aromas and precise acidity. The grapes are selectively harvested by hand, gently pressed and fermented under temperature-controlled conditions. The wine is matured primarily in stainless-steel tanks, with several months on the fine lees to enhance texture and tension while preserving the clarity of the fruit and the character of the site.

Food & Serving
Serve chilled at approximately 8–10°C. This mineral, dry Riesling is an excellent match for scallops, turbot, oysters, sushi, veal loin, delicate vegetable dishes and mature Comté. Its freshness and saline character are particularly well suited to refined dishes built around high-quality, simply prepared ingredients. Decanting is not essential, although a brief period of aeration in the glass can allow its citrus, floral and mineral notes to unfold.
