Description
Tongue ’N Cheek Pinot Noir 2022 from Lingua Franca is a standout Oregon red that captures the cool-climate precision of the Eola-Amity Hills. Crafted in a refined, Burgundian-inspired style, it combines elegance, mineral tension, and layered fruit in a wine of real distinction.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a bright, translucent ruby hue that hints at its finesse rather than sheer power. The bouquet opens with red cherry, wild strawberry, raspberry, and cranberry, lifted by rose petals, tea leaf, fresh herbs, and subtle spice, with further air revealing forest floor, citrus peel, and a distinct mineral edge.
The palate is silky and finely structured, with vivid acidity, polished tannins, and cool-toned fruit that stays focused from start to finish. The finish is long, saline, and complex, with impressive clarity and balance. While already beautifully expressive, it has the structure and freshness to develop gracefully over the next several years.
Production
Sourced from the cool, wind-influenced Eola-Amity Hills in Oregon’s Willamette Valley, the wine benefits from volcanic soils and the cooling effects of the Van Duzer Corridor, which help preserve freshness and aromatic detail. The grapes are hand-harvested and carefully selected, then vinified with a minimal-intervention approach to preserve site expression.
It is aged in French oak barrels, with a moderate proportion of new oak, allowing the wine to gain texture and complexity without overshadowing the purity of the fruit and terroir-driven character.
Food & Serving
This Pinot Noir is an excellent match for duck, veal, quail, and mushroom-based dishes, where its elegance and acidity complement rich, savory flavors. It also pairs beautifully with truffle dishes, grilled salmon, tuna, and aged soft cheeses. Serve at around 14–16°C; decanting is optional, though a short decant can help open up its aromatics.
Producer
Lingua Franca has quickly become one of Oregon’s most respected producers, known for uniting a Burgundian sensibility with the distinctive character of the Willamette Valley. Its focus on precision, transparency, and terroir has earned it a strong reputation for crafting some of the region’s most refined Pinot Noirs.
