Tasting Notes
Pale gold in the glass, the wine shows a refined yet expressive profile. The nose is marked by fresh hay, chamomile, and subtle toasted notes, while the palate is layered and full-bodied, with flavors of ginger, white pepper, and a clear saline mineral edge. A well-integrated acidity keeps everything fresh and focused, balancing the wine’s density and creamy texture. The finish is long, precise, and elegant, and the wine has excellent aging potential, gaining complexity over the coming years.

Production
The grapes come from Ried Obegg, a celebrated vineyard site in Südsteiermark known for its poor, calcareous soils and its exposure on an ancient coral reef plateau. Vines over 30 years old contribute concentration and nuance, and the fruit is harvested selectively by hand before being handled with great care in the cellar. The wine is matured for around 12 months on the lees in 500-liter tonneaux and 250-liter barriques with light toast, giving texture and subtle nutty complexity without dominating the wine’s mineral expression.

Food & Serving
This Chardonnay pairs beautifully with turbot, veal fillet with morels, or a refined poultry terrine. It also works very well with Comté or a creamy porcini risotto. Serve at around 10–12°C, and decanting is not necessary, although a little air can help the wine open up in its youth.
