Description
The 2021 Pinot Noir from Otronia captures one of the world’s most extreme winegrowing frontiers: Patagonia’s remote Chubut region in southern Argentina. Produced in a cool, wind-swept landscape close to the 45th parallel, it stands out for its purity, freshness, and finely tuned elegance—an expressive Pinot Noir with a strong sense of place.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a pale ruby color, hinting at its cool-climate origin. The nose is lifted and refined, with aromas of red cherry, cranberry, delicate floral notes, and subtle hints of herbs and spice.
On the palate, the wine is precise and graceful, with fine-grained tannins, vibrant acidity, and a clear, linear structure. The finish is fresh, mineral, and well balanced, giving the wine good aging potential over the next few years as it develops more savory and complex nuances.
Production
Otronia’s vineyards in Chubut are planted on poor, sandy-stony soils in a cold, wind-exposed environment that slows ripening and preserves acidity. The grapes for this Pinot Noir were selectively hand-harvested, with partial whole-cluster fermentation to add complexity and structure. Fermentation was carried out spontaneously with native yeasts, and the wine was aged mainly in used barriques, followed by several months on fine lees to build texture without masking the fruit.
Food & Serving
This Pinot Noir pairs beautifully with roast poultry, lamb chops, mushroom dishes with herbs, Mediterranean fare, and mildly aged hard cheeses. Serve it slightly cool at 14–16°C. Decanting is not essential, but a short aeration can help open up its aromas if enjoyed young.
Producer
Otronia is one of the most remarkable wine projects in Argentina, located in the far south of Patagonia in Chubut. Known for pioneering high-quality viticulture in one of the southernmost wine regions in the world, the estate has gained recognition for wines that express tension, finesse, and a strong sense of terroir, especially in cool-climate varieties like Pinot Noir.
