Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a mature golden hue that hints at its age and layered complexity. The nose opens with apricot, quince, and citrus peel, followed by mint, herbs, and a subtle spicy, leesy character that adds depth and nuance. On the palate, the wine is silky yet firm, with a pronounced mineral drive and a precise, saline structure. Flavors of stone fruit, bergamot, and cool herbal freshness lead into a long, composed finish. Thanks to its balance and vitality, it still has excellent presence now and should continue to hold well for further cellaring.

Production
The grapes come from Vom Stein in Mautern, a highly regarded vineyard site within the Wachau shaped by rigol layers, loess, clay, and Danube gravel. These soils contribute the wine’s distinctive minerality, tension, and spicy clarity. The fruit was hand-harvested, spontaneously fermented, and matured for 4.5 years on the full lees in large old oak casks before being bottled unfiltered and with minimal sulfur.

Food & Serving
This Riesling pairs beautifully with zander, veal dishes, and Austrian fried chicken, as well as vegetable-based dishes featuring fennel. It also works very well with matured mountain cheeses. Serve chilled at around 10–12°C, and decanting is optional but can help the wine open up if it has just been removed from long-term storage.
