Quinta do Noval’s 2003 Vintage Port Late Release is a beautifully matured expression of one of the Douro Valley’s most iconic estates. Released after extended aging, it offers the depth and structure of a classic Vintage Port with the added harmony and immediate approachability that come from patient cellar time.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep, opaque ruby core with only slight evolution at the rim, hinting at its age and concentration. The nose is layered and expressive, with blackberry, blackcurrant, plum and cassis leading the way, followed by dark chocolate, cigar box, dried fig, spice and subtle mocha, leather and balsamic nuances as it opens. The palate is full-bodied, dense and highly concentrated, yet remarkably balanced by fresh acidity and finely integrated sweetness. Mature tannins give the wine structure without harshness, while the finish is long, complex and persistent. Although already drinking beautifully, this is a Port that can continue to develop for many years, rewarding extended cellaring.

Production
Sourced from Quinta do Noval’s steep terraced vineyards in the heart of the Douro Valley, the wine reflects the region’s dramatic schist soils and low-yielding old-vine character. Grapes are traditionally harvested and vinified, then fortified with neutral grape spirit to preserve natural sweetness before aging for many years in optimal conditions. The late-release style allows the wine to gain extra integration, complexity and polish before reaching the market.

Food & Serving
A classic match for blue cheese, mature Stilton, dark chocolate and cocoa-based desserts. It is also excellent enjoyed on its own after dinner or alongside a fine cigar. Serve slightly cool, around 16–18°C, and decant gently if needed to separate any sediment; a little air will help the wine fully reveal its complexity.
