Description
Egly-Ouriet’s 1er Cru “Vignes de Vrigny” Brut is a terroir-driven Champagne that showcases the finesse and individuality of Vrigny in the Montagne de Reims. Built largely around Pinot Meunier, it reflects the house’s low-yield, hands-on approach and its reputation for crafting precise, characterful wines with real depth.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shimmers with a pale golden hue and a lively, fine mousse. The nose is expressive and layered, offering ripe apple, pear, citrus zest, brioche, and a subtle nutty tone that speaks to extended lees aging.
The palate is crisp and well balanced, with fresh acidity, mineral tension, and a creamy texture that gives the wine lovely shape. The finish is long and saline, with enough structure and concentration to suggest excellent aging potential over the coming years.
Production
The grapes come from Premier Cru parcels in Vrigny, where chalk-rich soils with a clay topsoil help preserve freshness while adding mineral clarity. The vineyards are farmed sustainably and yields are kept deliberately low to intensify the fruit and emphasize site expression.
Primarily Pinot Meunier, with small supporting proportions of other Champagne varieties, the fruit is hand-harvested and vinified traditionally. Some base wines mature in oak barrels before the second fermentation in bottle, followed by several years on the lees to build texture, complexity, and fine bubbles; dosage is kept moderate to highlight the purity of the terroir.
Food & Serving
Excellent as an aperitif, this Champagne also pairs beautifully with oysters, shellfish, sushi, and simply prepared fish. It works equally well with roast poultry in a light sauce or mild aged cheeses. Serve chilled at 8–10°C; decanting is not necessary.

Egly-Ouriet is one of the most respected grower-producers in the Montagne de Reims, known for a rigorous, vineyard-focused approach and a style that combines power, precision, and terroir expression.
