Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep ruby colour with brick-red reflections, a clear sign of its long bottle ageing. The nose is layered and inviting, with ripe blackberry, dried plum, and black cherry, followed by cocoa, spice, and a subtle leathery note. On the palate it is concentrated yet velvety, with ripe tannins and a well-integrated sweetness that gives the wine a smooth, balanced feel. The finish is long, complex, and lingering, with enough freshness and structure to still hold beautifully. While already mature and expressive, this wine can continue to develop nuance in bottle for many more years.

Production
The grapes come from high-quality quintas in the Douro, where steep slopes and heat-retaining schist soils help produce small, concentrated berries. Harvesting is done by hand, and fermentation traditionally takes place in granite lagares, allowing gentle extraction and strong colour development. Fortification with grape spirit stops fermentation early to preserve the wine’s natural sweetness, and after around two years in wood, it is bottled as Vintage Port to age for decades in bottle.

Food & Serving
This Port is a classic match for blue cheeses such as Stilton, as well as dark chocolate, walnut desserts, or other rich nut-based sweets. It also works beautifully on its own as a contemplative finish to a special meal. Serve at 16–18 °C and decant before pouring to help the aromas open fully and separate any sediment.
