Tasting Notes
The wine shows a vivid violet-red color in the glass, hinting at its freshness and intensity. Aromatically, it opens with notes of sassafras and nutmeg, layered over generous blackberry and stone fruit character. On the palate, it is lively and precise, with bright acidity carrying concentrated, polished tannins. The result is a Zinfandel that feels both expressive and structured, with enough fruit and balance to be enjoyed now while also promising excellent development over many years in bottle.

Production
The fruit comes from the iconic Fanucchi-Wood Road Vineyard, planted in 1890 near Fulton in the Russian River Valley, where the old vines benefit from dry farming and deep root systems. This terroir encourages naturally low yields and layered flavor concentration, while the vineyard’s historic field-blend makeup, with small amounts of Alicante Bouchet and Petite Sirah alongside Zinfandel, adds extra depth and complexity. The result is a wine with unmistakable site character and an impressive sense of history.

This Zinfandel is a natural match for richly flavored dishes such as grilled lamb, barbecued ribs, braised short ribs, roasted game, or hearty mushroom-based dishes. Serve it slightly below room temperature, around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 30–60 minutes if drinking young to allow the aromatics and texture to fully open up.
