Weingüter Wegeler’s Rothenberg Riesling Auslese Süss is a beautifully focused dessert wine from one of the Rheingau’s most celebrated steep-slope sites. Made from Riesling and bottled in a 37.5 cl format, it combines precise acidity with concentrated sweetness and the unmistakable character of the Rothenberg vineyard, a site long associated with age-worthy Rieslings.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this 2020 Auslese typically shows a bright golden color with luminous reflections. The nose is expressive and layered, offering notes of ripe peach, apricot, citrus peel, honey, and a subtle mineral edge that speaks to its Rheingau origins. On the palate, it is lush and sweet yet tightly balanced, with vibrant acidity keeping the wine fresh and focused. Expect flavours of candied stone fruit, citrus marmalade, and floral honey, followed by a long, refined finish with slate-like minerality. Thanks to its structure and natural concentration, it has excellent aging potential and can develop even greater complexity over time.

Production
The Rothenberg vineyard in the Rheingau is known for its steep slopes and mineral-rich soils, which help produce Rieslings with intensity, precision, and strong natural acidity. Grapes for Auslese are harvested selectively at full ripeness, often with berries chosen for their concentration and sweetness. Vinification is carried out with care to preserve purity of fruit, site expression, and balance between sweetness and freshness.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs wonderfully with fruit-based desserts, tarte Tatin, almond pastries, or crème brûlée, and it is also excellent alongside blue cheese or strong aged cheeses. Serve well chilled at around 8–10°C. Decanting is not usually necessary, but a short period in the glass can help the aromas open beautifully.
