Description

From Weingut Rudolf May’s organically farmed Langenberg vineyard, this 2024 Silvaner comes from old vines in a VDP Erste Lage—a prestigious single-vineyard classification. The site has a winemaking history stretching back more than 1,200 years, while its steep slopes and distinctive limestone soils give this bottling a strong sense of place.

Production
Langenberg rises above Retzstadt on steep, north-facing slopes, with aspects ranging from southwest to southeast. Its lean Wellenkalk, a formation of the lower Muschelkalk, warms quickly in summer, while wooded hills to the north provide shelter. Rudolf May’s plots contain knotted Silvaner vines around 40–50 years old. The supplied 2021 vintage note describes hand harvesting, approximately 18 hours of maceration and gentle pressing; specific vinification details for the 2024 vintage were not provided.

Food & Serving
Silvaner pairs naturally with freshwater fish, shellfish, asparagus and mild cheeses, and also works well with vegetable-led dishes. Serve lightly chilled, around 9–11°C. Decanting is not essential, though a brief rest in the glass can help the wine open up.
